"We are here to stress test our National Security system. I want them to be prepared for the worst-case scenario."

"War Game" (2024) attempts to blend political intrigue with a high-stakes fictional scenario, exploring the tactics and strategies behind quelling an insurrection. While the premise might spark interest among political enthusiasts, the execution leaves much to be desired. The film leans heavily into procedural politics, offering a slow burn that ultimately feels more like a tedious endurance test than a thrilling political drama.

For viewers deeply invested in political strategy and the minutiae of governance, "War Game" might offer a unique and intellectually stimulating experience. It delves into the complexities of decision-making during national crises, which could be compelling for a niche audience. However, for most, the slow pacing and lack of emotional engagement make the movie hard to endure. My wife, in particular, found the film so boring she couldn't finish it. Though I pushed through, I found it to be only marginally more interesting, largely due to my appreciation for the subject matter.

The staging of the film also contributes to its challenging nature. With much of the runtime devoted to closed-door discussions and backroom negotiations, it feels static and lacks the visual dynamism that might have kept audiences hooked. There's little in terms of action or dramatic flair, which makes the film a tough watch unless you're particularly invested in the topic.

In conclusion, "War Game" might appeal to those fascinated by political tactics and who wonder how to stop an insurrection. However, its pacing and narrow focus will alienate most viewers. If you're not deeply engaged in the political sphere, you're likely better off passing on this one.
