"There's an army coming that cannot be beaten."
In Venom: The Last Dance, the final chapter in Sony’s Venom series, Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his alien symbiote counterpart, Venom, go out with more flair and depth than ever before. Compared to the first two films, which fell short on several fronts, this movie feels refreshingly improved and genuinely engaging. I rated the earlier installments below average, but this one rates at average or just above, marking a step in the right direction.
What sets The Last Dance apart is its focus on Eddie and Venom’s tumultuous, co-dependent relationship, giving their bond a meaningful send-off. The film’s humor, often hit-or-miss in previous entries, lands more effectively here. The banter between Eddie and Venom feels more grounded, adding a layer of humor that complements the story’s darker tones. By setting my expectations low, I found myself pleasantly surprised by how invested I became in their journey and curious about how their story would conclude.
While this installment doesn’t venture into “high art” territory or achieve groundbreaking storytelling, it succeeds in delivering solid entertainment and satisfying character arcs. It’s not a must-watch for everyone, but if you’ve enjoyed any aspect of Eddie and Venom’s chaotic, quasi-horror outings in the past, The Last Dance is worth experiencing on the big screen. The film balances a mix of action, comedy, and sentimental moments, all without overloading on special effects, and the visuals work well to enhance the story rather than overshadow it.
Venom: The Last Dance may not redefine the genre or appeal universally, but for fans of Eddie and Venom, it provides a fitting and engaging close.
