"I know he's a little different, but that's what I like about him. He dresses like a complete dork, he chews with his mouth open, he hardly ever says the right thing, and probably farts, too."

“There’s Something About Mary” is a classic comedy that defined late ‘90s humor with its outrageous gags and unforgettable scenes. Watching it again after several years, the movie still delivers laughs, though some of the humor now feels a bit dated and occasionally cringeworthy by today’s standards.

The story follows Ted (Ben Stiller) as he reconnects with his high school crush, Mary (Cameron Diaz), years after a disastrous prom night incident. Along the way, we meet an array of quirky characters, including the memorable private detective Pat Healy (Matt Dillon), whose antics bring plenty of laughs.

The standout scenes remain hilariously funny, like the infamous hair gel mishap and the “Franks and Beans” incident. These moments showcase the Farrelly Brothers’ knack for pushing the envelope in a way that still entertains, albeit with a twinge of nostalgia. However, some jokes that seemed groundbreaking and edgy in 1998 now feel less comfortable, highlighting how comedy has evolved.

The performances are solid, with Cameron Diaz radiating charm and Ben Stiller’s awkwardness perfectly suited for his role. Matt Dillon’s sleazy character provides plenty of laughs, even if some of his actions are more cringe-inducing than funny by modern standards.

Overall, “There’s Something About Mary” retains much of its comedic charm but also shows its age in certain areas. It’s still worth a watch for the classic moments and the nostalgia it brings, even if you find yourself wincing at some parts.
