"I'm almost empty. Is there another gas station around here?"

“The Last Stop in Yuma County” is a 2023 American crime thriller film written and directed by Francis Galluppi and starring Jim Cummings, Jocelin Donahue, Richard Brake, Faizon Love, and Michael Abbott Jr. It is Galluppi’s feature directorial debut. The film premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 23, 2023, and was released in the United States in select theaters and on digital platforms on May 10, 2024, by Well Go USA Entertainment.

Set in the 1970s at a remote desert location in Yuma County, Arizona, the film opens with a traveling knife salesman stopping at a filling station. The station’s attendant, Vernon, informs him that the pumps are dry, and a refueling truck is expected soon. The salesman, hearing about a bank robbery on the radio, grows suspicious when two robbers arrive in a getaway car matching the description. As tension builds, the situation escalates into a violent standoff involving various characters, including a waitress named Charlotte and her sheriff husband, Charlie.

The film is visually striking, capturing the eerie desolation of the Arizona desert. Jim Cummings delivers a compelling performance as the salesman, while the rest of the cast provides solid support. However, while intriguing, the plot can feel predictable at times, and the pacing is uneven, with certain scenes dragging while others rush by.

Despite these flaws, “The Last Stop in Yuma County” has moments of genuine tension and well-crafted scenes that showcase Galluppi’s potential as a director. The film’s climax is both intense and tragic, though some viewers may find it overly grim. Overall, it’s a decent thriller with a few standout moments, but it falls short of being truly memorable.
